This is the Crosman 140 marked “Hawthorne”, and is of the third variant of this model which has no spoon breech cover like prior variants, and also does not have the die cast trigger housing like later variants. The third variant also has a steel breech, unlike earlier variants that have aluminum breeches. These rifles were manufactured between 1956 and 1962.
This one is in nice condition for such an old air rifle. The metal retains about 90% of the original finish. The light colored wood stock does have a couple small chips, but looks good overall with minor wear.
We recently cleaned, lubed, and resealed this rifle in our shop, and tested the velocity at 531 fps using lead pellets.
- .22 caliber
